Acne is a disorder that affects the skin’s oil glands and hair
follicles. The small holes in your skin (pores) connect to oil glands
under the skin. The pores connect to the glands by a canal called a
follicle. Inside the follicles, oil carries dead skin cells to the
surface of the skin. Dead skin cells and oils collect in the opening to
the skin follicle, producing a bump called a comedo.
Usually the first choice for treating acne is tetracycline — such as minocycline or doxycycline — or a macrolide. Oral antibiotics should be used for the shortest time possible to prevent antibiotic resistance. Oral antibiotics are best used with topical retinoids and benzoyl peroxide.
Blackheads are caused by clogged pores and manifest as ugly black marks on your skin. Caused by excess oil on your skin, you can prevent blackheads with good skin-care practices. If you already have blackheads, you can dissolve them away to get rid of them, for smoother skin.
